S.D. Hendrickson Hi. Thank you for reading! I am writing another book. I haven't said much publicly about it. Kinda staying tight lipped for now since it's under development. Its about a guy named Lucky and a girl named Katie. And it also takes place in Stillwater.
S.D. Hendrickson Hi. Thanks for the question! I just finished a book called Waiting for Wyatt. It's going to the editor and should be release in January! Friend me on here and I'll make sure I push out an announcement. Cover reveal and added to Goodreads in November.
Thank you for reading. I'm glad you enjoyed The Mason List!
S.D. Hendrickson I always planned to write a “romance” book but I wasn’t really aiming for one genre or another. I know that can often be bad for marketing a book. What Genre is The Mason List? Well…it’s a Contemporary, Coming-of-Age Romance that crosses both Young Adult and New Adult with splash of Chick Lit.

I read all sorts of genre’s. I think for me, all of those blend together in my head. I didn’t have one genre in mind when I set out to write the story. I was just telling the story. Alex’s backstory took over a large portion of theme. That wasn’t the intention but it became 50% of the story. I wanted a story that actually showed the characters together as kids. I didn’t want the story to start as adults with a few sentences that indicated they grew up together. I wanted the reader to feel like they grew up with the characters. To me, Jess and Alex growing up together was the story. It wasn’t always perfect and they didn’t always make the best choices. But they were together and the reader got to experience those twists and turns along the way.

I worried when I released The Mason List that people would have issues with the first half of the book being told from the young kid perspective since I was marketing in the romance section of Amazon that is full of traditional style of New Adult books. I say traditional, because there’s certain elements that are typically present in most New Adult books. However, most people have embraced the book as a whole. They loved the epic style and didn’t have a problem with the page count. There’s been a few who didn’t like the first half - and I’ve had people who loved the first half but not the last half. I think some of the dislike comes from the jump in genres. I also know that everyone does not like the same books. I’m okay with it. I had fun writing The Mason List. And at the end of the day, I know the published story is the one that I wanted to tell for Alex and Jess.
S.D. Hendrickson Thank you so much for reading! I am beyond flattered that it's going on your bookshelf with your favorites. Much appreciated.
I don't know if I will write more Jess and Alex. I've been vague because I don't want to say no -then do it or say yes-then not. I honestly don't know. I did put a Q/A up on my website. It's not exactly more, but I do address some questions about the end of the story. Thank you again!

S.D. Hendrickson Hi - I am working on a story. I've changed the name a few times so I refer to it as Wyatt + Emma right now.
It's a love story about a highschool girl Emma and a guy Wyatt who takes care of shelter dogs. And of course, Wyatt's story is not that simple. Here's a teaser link on my website. http://sdhendrickson.com/other-projects/
Thanks

S.D. Hendrickson Hi - Thank you for reading. And I'm glad you liked it. I can't say yes or no on Brazil at this point. My agent is currently looking at foreign rights options. So it may come to Brazil one day in the future. I would love for that to happen.
Thank you again for reading the English version

S.D. Hendrickson It doesn't follow exactly the artists mentioned in the book. But there's 2 play lists. Jess's Back Road Mix and Alex's Back Road Mix. And I actually listen to them a lot myself. I listen to all types of music so when I mentioned artists in the book, it's because I like them. Country, Rock, Pop etc. I have them on my website or the direct links.

Jess and Alex's Back Road Mixes
A little bit of country and a little bit of whatever Alex listens to as they drive the back roads of Arlis.

S.D. Hendrickson Thank so much for reading it! I'm glad you liked it. This is considered a standalone book. I honestly didn't expect this kind of response from readers.
As for Sadie. I really liked writing Sadie. She was such a contrast from Alex. I don't have anything in the works for her. But I won't say never. A book about Sadie would be a completely different standalone. Alex is really only a small part of her life. Sadie has nothing to do with Sprayberry. I see her living in a world like Olivia Pope - Yes! I'm a Scandal obsessed watcher. But for now. She's just living in DC.

Thanks again for reading!
S.D. Hendrickson I wanted to participate in NANOWRIMO - National Novel Writing Month. I had several ideas leading up to Nov 1. However, about a week before the competition, I pulled The Mason List out. It wasn’t called The Mason List at the time. I had a concept idea. A boy and girl growing up on a ranch. One was poor and depended on the rich family. I knew I wanted to tell the story of Jess and Alex being kids and growing up. That was it. I pounded out a 50,000 word rough draft in 30 days and then spent 2 years making the draft into the full-fledged story. It was interesting too. I didn’t like my main character at times. She made decisions that made me want to yell at her! That’s probably why I created her friend Sadie. Somebody needed to tell Alex what to do sometimes. Haha.
S.D. Hendrickson I am currently working on my second book, Red Dirt Claws. It's a second chance type story. Here's a brief synopsis.
For all the Charlie’s who deserved a chance and all the Wyatt’s who needed a second. A simple story of a girl, boy, some dogs and a deadly secret. Emma was a beauty queen who fell in love with a bunch of cast aways in the heart of red dirt country. She cared for every broken soul in the place including the one who lived in seclusion. Even as the impossible relationship grew passionately in the middle of nowhere, the ugly past has a way of coming back to haunt Wyatt and Emma. Sometimes love just isn’t enough to keep secrets from destroying the future.
S.D. Hendrickson I put on headphones. Turn them up loud! And listen to something that might inspire a scene.
