What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

Mandy Haggith My Grandmother's maiden name was Burns, and her father was from Ayrshire. I've often wondered whether there was a connection with Robbie Burns.

Mandy Haggith I'd love to travel with Jack Aubrey and Steven Maturin. Good music and amazing sailing.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Mandy Haggith From a brilliant book by Barry Cunliffe about Pytheas, who made an epic voyage around 2300 years ago.

Mandy Haggith Nature, history, people. The world is full of inspiration!

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Mandy Haggith Your view of the world is unique. Write! Write every day. Expect to have to practice a huge amount, just as if you're learning a musical instrument. Spend twice as much time reading as writing - there is so much to learn from other writers. Be careful who you ask for feedback and protect your gentle creative self.
