Kirby Larson I do love Hattie but I feel I’ve left her in a good place!
Kirby Larson Sorry to have missed this, Princess Katie! I absolutely have books in the works. One book, Code Word Courage, will come out in the spring of 2018. The others are in the baby steps stage so I don't really like to talk about them. But thank you for asking!

Kirby Larson I think it would be easier to answer in terms of writers who inspire me: Karen Cushman, Barbara O'Connor, Mary Nethery, Ann Whitford Paul, Susan Hill Long, Augusta Scattergood, Kate DiCamillo, Dave Patneaude, Rodman Philbrick and Kathi Appelt are just a few of my creative inspirations!
Kirby Larson Duke is the story of Hobie Hanson who is trying to figure out how to be as brave as the rest of the men in his family. He has a tough decision to make when asked to loan his dog, Duke, to Uncle Sam for the war effort.

Kirby Larson I hope this doesn't sound brusque or rude, but I don't think about my audience when I write. I think mostly about the character and I work very hard to tell his or her story as true as possible. I feel doing that is the best way to connect with an audience.

Thanks for asking!
Kirby Larson If I'm temporarily stuck, I go for a walk or read something that inspires me. I don't believe there is such a thing as writer's block. I think when I begin to feel blocked, it's because I'm really close to a breakthrough which means I need to keep working so I can come out on the other side.
Kirby Larson There are three best things: typing Chapter One, typing The End, and hearing from readers.
Kirby Larson Read as much as you can, as broadly as you can, and write as much as you can. Find someone who doesn't love you to read your work with a cold but caring eye. And never, ever give up.
Kirby Larson My passion is historical fiction so it should be no surprise that my next four books will be in that genre. But the next book out will be a fun twist on history! Watch for it, spring 2016.
Kirby Larson I get inspired to write when I sit in my chair every single morning.
Kirby Larson From a woman named Mitsi Shiraishi who bravely wrote General John DeWitt during WWII to ask if she could take her beloved dog, Chubby, with her when she and her family were sent to the war relocation camps.
