LOVE your books! Any updates for your readers?

Denise Swanson Thank you so much. I took a couple of years off to care for my mother and mother-in-law. Both have sadly passed away so I am now writing again. I'm currently working on Wedding Jitters and Stormy Rivers, the 24th Scumble River book. I'm hoping to have it available for purchase by the end of the year.

I really enjoyed the way you work with the characters and especially the main character. Great start to a series and so looking forward to another one. So plan to pick up some of the others. I hope you do continue this series. Did you take some courses on how corporate jobs work?

Denise Swanson Thank you so muck. Mostly, I just use my own experiences, read blogs, and talk to friends with similar jobs.

I finished the Scumble River series as well as the Return to Scumble River series and I am not ready for it to be over. I absolutely loved both series! Will there be more books added to the Return to Scumble River series?

I would say Murder of a Wedding Belle or Murder of the Cat's Meow have the most Bunny and bowling alley scenes.

Will you be continuing the Chef to go series? I love this series so much!

Will there be more books in the Chef To Go series? I just LOVED the last book. the name was what cought my eyes from the other like 100 books at the books store, and I knew i wanted the book i finished it in about less than a month and i loved it so i really want to see what happens to Dani next!

Denise Swanson I'm hoping to write another in that series, but I have a few books ahead of it.

I was just wondering if on the book Tart of Darkness chapter 2 pg.15 if teh word "Glock" was a typo or if it wasnt what you meant by it. the sentence is "Jerking open his nightstand drawer, he grabbed his Glock"?

Denise Swanson Glock is a type of gun.

Hi Denise I am almost finished with the kidnapper book and have read from book one up to now. I just got dead in the water and the other two that go with it. Love the series. Why did u have a break after u wrote catknapper? I have lived all over Illinois for 30+ yrs. Keep going back. Thanks for the stories. Kristina Craig

Denise Swanson Hi Kristina,

Thank you! The publisher for books 1-19 unfortunately chose to do away with its paperback original line so I had to find a new home for the series. The new publisher wanted a fresh start--thus Welcome Back to Scumble River. All characters and settings are the same, but I did bring the series timeline up to present day and gave Wally his own point of view.

Denise...I am so happy to see you on Goodreads. I love your books. I know you are not active here often, but saw your posting about Goodreads being a difficult place for authors. I like how you tackle your fears by doing what makes you uncomfortable. I am taking your words to heart. Have you gotten another kitty yet? My girl passed away after 17 years with us and it's a void I wish on no one.

Your website states that at one point you “met real evil” and decided that battling evil as an author was preferable. (I think that was it, but please feel free to correct my paraphrasing if I got it wrong!) Is there an interview or article or somewhere where you share that story?

It's a very disturbing issue that I ran across while employed as a school psychologist and sadly cannot share due to confidentiality restraints.

Revisiting Scumble River is like returning to see familiar and quirky friends! The new series sounds promising! Read the first book a while back! Please keep the books coming, Denise! :-)

Sadly, the publisher didn't renew the contract so I'm looking for another publisher. If I don't find one, I'll probably self-publish, but either way it'll be at least another year. :(

I just finished your latest deveraux dimes book when does the next one come out next year and do you have a title ?

Denise Swanson Sadly, I the publisher choose not to offer me another contract for this series so it is on hiatus until I either find another publisher for it or decide to self-publish the next one. :(

Will you have more of the costume shop mysteries? Like that almost as much as Scumble River.

Denise Swanson Hi! I don't write the costume shop mysteries. Do you mean the Dime Store mysteries? If so, sadly, the publisher chose not to renew that series. I'm trying to find a new publisher, but so far no luck.

Hi Denise, I truly enjoy the Scumble Myteries series. I purchased all 20 books, but now I see that there is a book 21, Die Me A River. Is that book out yet, I can't seem to find it. Also is the Chef -To- Go Tart of Darkness the first book into a new series ? Thank your Beth

Thanks so much. Die Me a River comes out in Sept. It is currently available for pre-order. Chef-to-Go is my new series and Tart of Darkness is the first book in that series. The next one comes out in April.

Denise Swanson Hi Barbara! Thanks so much! I've added you to my newsletter and the next one will probably go out in early March. I'm ambivalent about reading reviews. I do read most, although I try to avoid the ones on Goodreads since some of them seem meaner than elsewhere. I don't think the reviews influence my writing, but a really nasty one can stop me from writing for a few days.

Denise Swanson Definitely. All I need is your e-mail address and I'll add you to my list.

The great majority of my characters and settings are inspired by real life. I love to people watch and am always taking notes.
