S. Jae-Jones I don't have an exact date yet, but Guardians 2 will be out August 2024!
S. Jae-Jones Hello I know I am terribly late this this since the news has been out for a while (not to mention I sort of disappeared for a while), but yes, the first Guardians of Dawn book will be published in August 2023!
S. Jae-Jones I first encountered Goethe's poem in college, not because I was studying it, but because I was obsessed with Mozart. I was studying voice at the time, and my teacher assigned me "Das Veilchen," which is a Lieder by Mozart set to the poem of the same name by Goethe. The Ravenclaw in me loves to go down research tangents, so I actually next discovered the "Der Erlkönig" Lieder by Schubert.

The poem (nor the piece by Schubert) didn't much influence the novel in terms of story, although it did inspire the mood.
S. Jae-Jones Oh, this one's easy: children's fantasy, both middle grade and young adult. :) My formative reading years were shaped by Harry Potter and His Dark Materials; I was 11 when I read The Golden Compass and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for the first time, and they left deep impressions on me. (In the case of Harry Potter, I was 22 when Deathly Hallows was published, so it really did span most of my formative years.)
S. Jae-Jones These days there are a lot of resources online that can help an aspiring writer polish their work and find a literary agent. Query Tracker and Agent Query are two places you can go to research agents and see what sorts of books they represent, and if they are a good fit for you. I (and several other published writers, agents, and other publishing industry people) blog at a website called Pub(lishing) Crawl, and I also host a podcast about writing and publishing with my friend Kelly where we try our best to answer questions about the industry, as well as offering writing tips and advice.

As for the second part of your question, originality is not as important as people make it out to be. There are no new stories; only new ways to tell them. Finding new ways to tell old stories comes with practice. Keep writing, and you'll get there!
S. Jae-Jones I don't necessarily consciously set out to write in a certain style, but I do give consideration as to what POV I'm using before I start writing. A lot of that decision is made as I'm thinking of what sort of story it is I'm writing: something close, intimate, and personal? Or something a little more broad in scope? If the former, I tend to write in first person; if the latter, third person.
S. Jae-Jones I wrote a little bit about the origin story of Wintersong on my blog (as well as a series of posts about inspiration), but the TL;DR version is: I was working a really terrible customer service phone job in a new town and decided to write 50 Shades of Labyrinth to get me through the tedium. :)
S. Jae-Jones I generally go to IDEÅ, the Scandinavian idea superstore, but mostly so I can have some meatballs at the cafeteria when I'm finished shopping.
