Pearl R. Meaker I often have trouble with choosing a favorite of anything, and this is no exception.

I love Agatha Christie's Tommy and Tuppence Beresford. The TV Phryne Fisher and "Jack" Robinson couple is such fun - even though Phryne will never commit to Jack, and I love the love and commitment between Tom and Joyce Barnaby - and John and Sarah Barnaby too - from Midsomer Murders.

I also love my crime solving couple, Emory and Jebbin Crawford in the Emory Crawford Mysteries. Like most of my other favs they are a happily married and committed couple who truly love each other.
Pearl R. Meaker Rather poorly much of the time. ;-)

That said, going and finding a writers challenge site, finding a challenge that will fit your characters and write a short story from that. Or, just writing any short story from it. I think it jiggles things around in your head and plus it's just plain fun. Fun helps to get rid of blocks.

Take a day or two off. I mean off. Don't do anything that relates to your story or writing. Take walks. Go to a mall or someplace where it's easy to just wander around. Go out for lunch with a friend. Go to a park or inexpensive tourist attraction you've never been to before. Give yourself some new experiences.
Pearl R. Meaker Writing your stories! :-)

Bringing people enjoyment or learning - or both - through your book(s).
Pearl R. Meaker Learn as much about marketing and promoting as you can as soon as you can. You'll need it! And, start being active here on Goodreads and other social networking sites as soon as you know you're writing a book. Make friends, they often become your readers. :-)

Find a good, reliable editor who you can work well with. Few things are worse than a good story ruined by a needless lack of good editing. Yes, readers will notice and will mention it in reviews.

Believe in yourself.
Pearl R. Meaker I'm currently working on Book #3 for the Emory Crawford Mystery Series. :-)

Book #1, The Devil's Music, is available now for pre-order and will release on May 1, 2015.

Book #2, By Hook, is at the publisher's beginning the publication process and has an expected release date of October 20, 2015.
Pearl R. Meaker I've been inspired to write in several different ways.

Writing challenges have inspired me many times, both with original fiction and when I wrote "Lord of the Rings" based fan-fiction. Things like: write a story that uses the color purple, a pine tree and a lost child - have worked well for me over the years. I had two original short stories that were published (one online and one in print) that were both inspired by challenges.

Song lyrics, things I see when I'm out walking have inspired me as well.
Pearl R. Meaker The Devil's Music was inspired by a line from the song "Didn't Leave Nobody But The Baby" from the movie "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?"

The whole song is just so wonderfully eerie!

"You and me and the Devil makes three. Don't need no other lovin' baby." is the line that inspired me, in fact the first half of it was the original title.
