I just submitted my final volume in the "Rats, Pumpkins, and Other Rumors" series. I am doing research on my second novel while I am waiting on my first novel, Acts of Courage, to come out this summer.

Keep what you write. No matter what. The short story, "Rats, Pumpkins, and Other Rumors" was fleshed out from something I had written years before in a lesson I did with my English students. Same thing with my novel, Acts of Courage; it came from something I started four years earlier and had stuffed in a beach bag!

It gives me a chance to think outside of the box. When I write, I can create anyone I want, or I can BE anyone I want, at least while I am in my story! It is the best way to express yourself that I know.

My go-to solution is to be quiet, if possible. I get the most out of myself when I can turn on some music that inspires me and just 'be'. I try not to push because that gets too messy. I just let myself think of different possibilities and try them out mentally. It comes more easily when I am relaxed and do not try too hard.
