(view spoiler)[Great questions! It got cut out of the final version of the book, but Nathan has been to Charice's apartment before-- attending the same "Seed Time" party that Jonah went to. He remembers Dahlia from that, though Dahlia, who was in party-avoidance mode, doesn't recall him.
I woudn't say that Dahlia had _no_ suspicions of Nathan, given that she's rather quick to count him as a potential murder suspect. But at the moment she answers her door, she's still pretty unmoored from her police encounter, and not her most critical self. (hide spoiler)]

Sort of a steampunk riff on "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World," but with lots more bureaucracy. And a crocodile.
It's very different sort of book as Dahlia Moss, but it has similar sense of humor. The two books would get along well at dinner parties.

(view spoiler)[Truthfully, I was trying to fill holes in my library's collection. I'd observed the popularity of hobby-themed mysteries, but I was dismayed at how they seemed to always cover the same few interests. (Cooking and knitting is well-trod ground at this point.) I'd noticed that a lot of my mystery readers were pretty geeky, and I thought someone should try to put those things together. Honestly, I just thought I'd order something, but when I couldn't find the book I wanted, I wrote it myself. (hide spoiler)]
