I don't. I just let go when I feel blocked and wait for the story to come back and say it's ready for me. It's always about the characters and their circumstances, never about the writer who is a 'messenger' at best and a 'thief' at worst.

You get to discover things and find ways to put them into words so others get to be part of it. Words are the basic building blocks of communication. Music, acting and movies/plays, art in general, science in profusion... Everything starts with words. Like the primordial soup of First-Life, writers (good, bad, and average alike) work in their Word Labs to create new life. Can't get more interesting than that.
