L.M. Nelson I love being an author. It's the writing process I enjoy the most. Creating characters and throwing them into various challenges within their worlds not only allows me to tell their stories, but is also a stress relief for me. Although the actual process of authorship has its challenges, I can't imagine not writing.
L.M. Nelson My favorite fictional cohole is Christopher Snow and Sasha from Fear Nothing. They both have unique personalities and show their affection for one another in their own subtle ways. They support each other and lift each other up. Although they love each other, they each have their own interests. Their relationship is adorable, and they grow as a couple because of the strange and tragic circumstances they face.
L.M. Nelson I'm actually working on two new works at the moment, when I'm not revising the next book in my series. The upper grade fantasy chapter book I'm writing came to me in a dream, believe it or not. I woke up in the morning, quickly wrote down the idea and built the book around the images I could remember.
L.M. Nelson Music usually inspires me to write. I hear a song and think, "There's a story behind that," and I write it. Often photography inspires me as well. If I see an interesting photograph, I'm usually inspired to write the story that goes with it.
L.M. Nelson The best advice I can give aspiring writers is to keep writing. Follow your heart and write what you love. Listen to the advice of experienced writers and take criticism with a grain of salt. Learn from it, but don't dwell on it. You can only get better the more you write.
L.M. Nelson The best thing about being a writer is expressing my thoughts with no rules, deadlines, or boundaries. I can write what I want, when I want, and it doesn't have to perfect the first time around. I have the luxury to alter, add to, or delete whatever I've written to make it the way I want it. I get to know my characters and travel on their journeys with them. There is no experience like that.
L.M. Nelson To deal with writer's block, I take a walk and go on a photography spree. Music usually inspires me as well. Certain songs inspire scenes or characters for my books.
L.M. Nelson I'm currently working on revising and editing the third book in this series, called Beyond the Hardwood. I'm also writing a children's fantasy chapter book and a crime novel.
