Steve Madison Since I was a boy, I've always wanted to know how and why things work. Once I took the lockset off our front door to see how keys could lock and unlock our house. That’s the day Daddy taught me that sometimes special knowledge is required to get to the crux of the matter.

Along with wanting to know, I grew up a Christian patriot. God and country are naturally part of my DNA. I still choke-up when I hear Lee Greenwood sing "God Bless the USA", and I really mean it when I say the Pledge of Allegiance. So I guess when you combine these two natural qualities it's easy to see how a serious curiosity about how and why our national government has drifted so far from its intended purpose would arise.

The book started as a series of conversations I had with Mama the year she died. We discussed a lifetime's worth of our hopes, our tragedies, our victories, and in nearly every story, somehow, government intrusion was a factor. She speculated about what had happened to America in her lifetime - not the post-911 zombie shell we call America today - but the self-governing country she grew up in. That’s what really stuck – that at the end of her life, my 86 year old mother was still a patriot, and still concerned about the country and how Americans had so much of their individual liberty taken from them.

Getting to the crux of the matter - figuring out how these things work and why - that's the mission of the Mayday Project.

Of course, I hope the readers will be entertained but more importantly, I hope they'll be challenged - perhaps even outraged - enough to do their own research.

If ignorance is the weapon being used to enslave us, then scholarship and enlightenment will be the vessel of our deliverance. The more you read, the more you'll discover that it's not our government anymore.
