To be obvious, I would travel to Lumby. Excluding my own fictional world, though, I would say Shangra-La (Lost Horizon by James Hilton) where I would either be a contemplative monk or a physicist.

Some of it comes for the momentum of prior plots, which is usually the case when writing a series longer than 3 or 4 titles. However, Pam's plot line came from Art giving me two different DNA tests for Christmas, and thinking about the endless possibilities of what they would reveal.

Hmm, interesting question. I would have to say having control over a world you've created (no matter how small) and the people in it (no matter how quirky).

I really don't get writer's block to often, but when I was starting out, I did write myself into a corner frequently enough. A solution for both of those problems: have a very detailed outline and follow it through until the end of the first draft.
