Great question. I think I would travel to James Baldwin's Paris in Giovanni's Room. That was one of my favorite books of all times and has inspired some of my writing. I love how vivid the bars and the streets are in Giovanni's Room. It's gritty and romantic and exciting all at the same time.
Jack London's wilderness in Call of the Wild would also be a nice destination. I loved that book as a child and often fell asleep thinking about that book.

When I turned 30, I promised myself I would accomplish two major goals in my 30s - run another marathon and write a novel. On my 39th birthday I realized I had run that marathon, but I hadn't written much of anything, so I got to work. At first my goal was just to get a manuscript done, but then when I finished it, I wanted to get it published. So, I started pitching publishers and agents - I got a contract the week before my 40th birthday.

I'm currently working on a new novel about what happens when relationships go wrong - really wrong. We'll see where this one goes - it's a lot harder than my last couple of projects.

I write through it. Sometimes it's painful, but I hunker down and just start typing. A lot of junk comes out, but eventually the creativity gets a jumpstart and the block is gone.
