Yes, I do actively promote my books. In fact, I was invited to give a presentation at this past year's West Virginia Writers Fall Conference entitled "Marketing Your Work on the Cheap". I'll be happy to review your beta work and let you know what I think of it.
By the way, thanks for your very detailed review of Afghan Mirrors. You were the only person to ever notice that instance of a miss-named character!

Just write! Don't be afraid of not being good enough. Write all you can, whenever you can, and read all you can, too. I've always been a voracious reader and I think I really learned to write through all the reading I've done.

I simply love the act of writing. It comes easy to me. I know many authors struggle with writer's block and the need to discipline themselves to write some everyday, but the whole process is just a whole lot of fun for me. I can completely lose track of time when writing and work at it for hours, if not disturbed.

It's really a fictionalized autobiography. Some of it is absolutely based on fact and my real life experiences. Some of it is made up to make the character more interesting that my actual boring self. I wrote the first draft in only three months because I really didn't need to do any kind of extensive research.
