I do not think there will be one single idea for a book. Not if it is rich varied and has many interesting characters. For example, George Martin said SOFAI started with an image of six direwolf pups in the snow. Great by itself...for a short story. It kind of grew out from there :D
One aspect of New Praetorian's lead character, Sienna McKnight, is her struggle as a woman of high rank in a male-dominated military. One real life story I came across during research was particularly insightful. Once there was an Egyptian general who refused to speak with his U.S. counterpart because that decorated Army Lt. Colonel was merely a female. You can guess how that engagement worked out.
