I haven't written much recently and have been struggling to find an idea that really motivated me.

But a new story is starting to form in my head. I know my detective, I know his history and I know where he lives. And the villain - she's a real piece of work...
V.R. Stone Ideas pop into my head when I'm doing other things. But that happens as a result of me considering a topic previously. It's like a process that's running in the background and it produces a result when it's done.

I had been struggling for years to find the right story and the right genre. I'd gravitated towards crime and thrillers. But my male protagonists were lacking something and the stories weren't very original.

Then one night I was lying awake and I just thought "You should write about a female serial killer." Building a story around a female character made me approach the story in a different way. It was a eureka moment!
V.R. Stone You just have to keep writing, even if you're not happy with what's being produced. First drafts should be bad. You produce a lump of clay and then then you rewrite it until you have a Michaelangelo's David. Or at least a useable plate..
