Faiz Shaikh A story happens on its own. If you feel trapped in one scene, move on from it. Think of some other story for a while. Try to write a small poem or a smart snippet for a hypothetical ad campaign. When you disengage your mind, you would be able to come back to original scene with a fresh perspective.

The novel that I am currently writing, 'Until Next Time' took six years to finish. I had most of the story done in my mind except the climax. I figured I needed a lot more maturity to do justice to the delicate nature of the set-up. I spent the next six years living my life as best I wanted it to be.

Then one fine day, the climax scene just came to me. I was finally mature enough to understand my own characters.

Sometimes things take time. If a story doesn't come to you, it may be because you are not ready for it yet.
Faiz Shaikh Being a writer opens up a whole new dimension of existence. At at any point I can teleport into different scenes in my mind.

I do, however, avoid doing that while doing potentially dangerous activities such as crossing a busy highway or talking to my wife.
Faiz Shaikh People often ask me, 'How do you write stories?'

I tell them, 'If you can walk, you can dance... anyone and everyone can dance. The same holds true for writing. Anyone and everyone can write. You just have to let your thoughts roam around free, let go, and express your basest emotions.
Faiz Shaikh I am currently working on a novel, 'Until Next Time'. It is a story that tries to answer a simple question that has perplexed the Romantic world.

Can a person truly 'love' two people at the same time?
Faiz Shaikh Inspiration is everywhere we look, within every moment we feel, think, smile, cry, laugh, and share. We, as humans, always look for an internal gratification that sometimes comes from philosophy.

I have tried to capture moments where I felt people could experience a transition moment in a characters life, where a normal occurrence turns into a life altering learning.
Faiz Shaikh The idea is based in the fact that every story we read needs an element of commitment; a commitment of ‘time’. In a busy schedule, taking out an entire night to read a novel is unrealistic.

One can read while traveling or while other instances of free time. I figured, if I can create compelling short stories to fill that gap. I could help people rekindle their love for reading.

You could get through one of my short stories before you reached your destination, or before you finish your lunch. It would, however, stay with you the whole day, or maybe longer.

It's a simple need-solution scenario which I have addressed with my book.
