Hello, Doris! What a great question! It's not particularly hard to publish a book, but doing so well does cost time, money, and expertise.
I always try to put out the best work I can because I feel my readers deserve a quality book with a professional cover, edit, and compelling plot.
So, anyone can publish, but not everyone can publish well. Publishing, like most other things in life, gives back the effort you put into it.
Thank you so much for your question. It's nice to hear from someone local to me.

I have used writing prompts a time or two, but most of my ideas come to me via musical inspiration, what-if scenarios, or by way of my dreams.
As far as workshops, some can be very helpful, but I encourage you to seek out free information first and check the reputation of any courses or workshops you spend money on. Don't just trust reviews on their websites. Seek out real clients. Good workshops and courses are talked about publicly on social media by previous students.
For revisions, self-editing is the first step. So many authors forget to go back over their manuscript with a fine-tooth comb! Next, try to find some beta readers who will tear your story apart! For this reason, it's best not to use friends or family who are more likely to flatter you than use a critical eye. After addressing the issues brought up by betas, please do hire a professional editor. Editors are trained to bring out the best in your story and make or break a book's success! It's also good to hire a proofreader as your final defense against typos and errors!

Middle-earth of course! I'd live like a Hobbit and maybe have one very unexpected adventure ;)

Read something every day. Write something every day, even if it's a paragraph. Start marketing immediately, even if you have nothing much written down yet. The push that you will get from social media and potential fans will give you more to work toward and a goal to attain. You will be held accountable. Your profile says you are an author, so be one.
