Meet other writers. Many encouraged me to do this over an extended number of years. I never felt the timing was right, and refused every opportunity. I succumbed to some serious encouragement a year ago to attend a local writers' conference. While it was truly a God thing and His perfect timing, I know this book would still be ideas in a folder hanging out under my desk had I said, "no" once again. I've since joined a local writers' group as well. It does take some time and commitment, but the encouragement and knowledge you'll gain exceeds the investment. You'll make wonderful new friends, too.

Being able to share life stories and lessons in a creative way that may touch someone else's life in a positive way brings satisfaction in the writing process. That someone encounters Jesus for the first time - or the hundreth -- but this time changes their story is an answer to my greatest prayer as a writer.

Inspiration for each new segment of these devotional collections comes to me at weird times -- perhaps in the shower, or when I first wake up in the morning, or even in the midst of some pretty mundane activities. Truth is, though, they own come from time spent meditating on God's word, asking for His guidance, and letting Him reveal the inspiration for the message to be shared.

A follow-up to this inspirational collection scheduled to arrive late summer/early fall in time for the hoidays: "The Essence of Joy." Aromas associated with Christmas like mint and cedar are found in Scripture, and they provide a special message for finding our essence of joy. Cinnamah-Brosia (you'll meet her in "The Essence of Courage") and her friends will be back to share their own stories of finding the true joy of the Christmas season.

God wove the story of essential oils into our world on the third day when He created vegetation on the earth. Twelve years ago essential oils intersected a crossroads in my life. Growing knowledge of them opened Scriptures in a meaningful, new way. I found myself particularly fascinated with the locked garden filled with its fruits, spices, and essential oils described in Song of Solomon. These dozen trips around the sun, God nudged me to share a fresh perspective. The vision evolved into something quite different from the original plan. I'm certain it is exactly as God intended. By a series of “God-incidences,” He released this work in His perfect timing and by His inspired design. (Excerpted from "The Essence of Courage."
