I love reading, writing and stationary way too much to just walk away! It's obsessive, I think about writing all the time, I adore and admire so many amazing authors and poets and playwrights that I kind of can't help myself. That is on a good day! If I'm feeling slow or tired, I make my self a huge cup of coffee, my favourite music and write about how I am feeling, like a diary entry. That usually does the trick as a few minutes in I'm ready to quit that and itching to write fiction:)

Write as much as you can regularly. Enter competitions. Don't worry so much about what you are writing, just write through until you have dissolved some self-consciousness and you start to feel some flow. Read what you'd like to write and simply, have a go. Write a chapter, describe a scene. Get started, buy a lovely notebook and a fancy pen and begin.

So many things! During the writing stage it is the challenge, the unfolding of the character and story and the opportunity to work with amazing people. Then it is graft time, that can be tricky! But when it all comes together, I love seeing the cover for the first time, that is always exciting. But then the real joy arrives, when the story is recieved well by readers and they review it and its like a wonderful conversation. They know the people I know! They care as much as I care! That feeling is the best. Wonderful.

I listen to music, sing out the words and try to think of context. Who would write this song? What kind of character? What are they feeling? Why? Sometimes that can work. Otherwise I'll take a break, go out and return in better form.
