Alexandra Villasante I'm a morning person - I literally wake up with my chickens. That makes mornings my best time for putting words down. I like the stillness, the possibilities of mornings. I also really like coffee and tea—I can turn a second cup of coffee into a reward for writing for an hour. Also, I turn into a semi-conscious blob after 10 PM. No one wants to read a book written by a semi-conscious blob. (Or do they?)
Alexandra Villasante The usual strategies work for me with writer's block - go for a walk, feed the chickens, eat a giant piece of cake, etc. But since I have an art background, one thing that's really helpful for me if I'm stuck on a scene is to draw out the scene, or sketch out a portrait of my main character. I find that if I focus my creativity on a different medium (while staying in the world of my book) I can usually shake free of the blockage. Did I mention that cake works too? Writer's Block can absolutely be caused by hunger.
