Lorrie Sprecher I am currently polishing a completed novel about a rape and its aftermath and writing a novel about Palestine.
Lorrie Sprecher My best advice is to be persistent. I think persistence, in a world that doesn't necessarily reward the arts, is just about the most important quality for a writer to have. The move from being an aspiring writer to being a writer comes with your persistence. You cannot control the state of publishing or other people's reading habits, but you can control your own commitment to your writing. A writer has to insist on writing no matter what external circumstances exist.
Lorrie Sprecher This may sound silly, but the best thing about being a writer is that I get to write! It's that simple.
Lorrie Sprecher Quite frankly, I deal with writer's block by becoming aimless and depressed! But as that is terribly unhelpful, I try to keep in touch with my writing by editing and sending out unpublished work. I am happiest when working on a new novel, and when I cannot do that, something that cheers me up is writing short-short fiction. This feels like the opposite of writing novels, and sometimes switching forms can liberate my mind from its non-writing stupor and get me going again.
