There was a "peeping Tom" in our neighborhood when I was growing up. He was caught peering into a neighbor girl's bedroom window one night, and either the girl or her dad recognized him as a local store employee. Shortly thereafter, he disappeared. I can recall whispers among the parents that were hushed as children approached. I always wondered about his mysterious disappearance.

I would travel to Hogwarts School of Wizardry. The first thing I would do is climb the moving stairs to see where they take me. Of course, I would have to explore every nook and cranny in the building, take in a quidditch game, and eat at one of the great feasts. Next, I would chat with Harry, Dumbledore, and every professor, before strolling down "Diagon Alley." There, I'd purchase a broom and wand, then have Potter and Granger teach me how to use them.
Fun question! Thanks!

I've read a number of books this summer, and tried to write reviews on most of them. You can view them at makoontz.com/myblog . I was also fortunate enough to get an advance reader's edition of The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates, and am looking forward to reading it. Thanks for asking.

She entered her hotel room on a dark and stormy night, soaked to the bone from the pouring rain. Reaching into the pitch black bathroom, she flipped on the light and released a blood-curdling scream as the illumination revealed the inevitable; there was no hair dryer!

My advice for aspiring writers is to collaborate with a qualified editors. If you are writing a book for the first time, I highly recommend setting up a plan/contract with an editor who meets your needs. I contacted Lauren Taylor Shute with LTS Editorial. Since this was a work of fiction, I decided that a developmental editor would be best, but found Lauren to be so helpful in a myriad of ways, that I continued to work with her through the publication of my book.
Also, it's important to hire a copy editor to polish your manuscript. Don't be confused by the two. The copy editor looks at every grammatical detail, whereas a developmental editor is more concerned with the big picture, which is presenting a solid story. Remember, it's a journey, so enjoy everything along the way!

I find that when I have writer's block, I step away from the computer, pick up a pen and notepad, and head to my comfy chair. Creativity flows much more easily through my pen in hand while surrounded by a relaxed atmosphere.

I am currently working on an article for the LTS Editorial October newsletter, as well as my next blog for my web site (makoontz.com). Ideas are spinning in my head for my next novel, and I can't wait to get started on it!

I think my inspiration comes from both experiences and a great imagination.

The idea for SHARDS OF TRUST started with the medical community that I live in, along with siblings and my mom who have worked in the medical field. I began to ask, "what if" questions to turn everything upside down in order to create this thriller.
