My father's mother died when he was an infant. He was the youngest of 10 siblings, and his father, now a widower, had to keep working but had no way to take care of all the kids himself. Because of this, the siblings were all split up. Some went to live with other family members and some went to live in orphanages.
Because of this unfortunate situation, I've grown up with a lot of unanswered questions about my own family, any number of which could be the plot of a story. But I think if I were to choose, I would start with the mystery of my ancestry.
I know who my paternal grandparents were insofar as what their names were. But discovering who they really were, who their parents were, where they came from and so on, would make an interesting plot for a book. As a fantasy author, weaving some fantastical elements into what was discovered could be very interesting. In fact, I know of more than one fantasy book that used the mystery of a person's unknown ancestry quite effectively.

If I could travel to any fictional book world, it would probably be Middle Earth. I would likely avoid all the dangerous spots, though. I could be one of the first travel bloggers--in other words, a bard, but one who focuses on all the great things to see and do. I would spend time in Hobbiton, and sing about that. I would probably spend way too much time at Rivendell, enjoying the place and singing songs with the elves. I'd probably spend a few nights at the Prancing Pony waiting for interesting characters to show up.

He crept quietly down the dark hallway towards the kitchen, where blood-curdling sounds of screams had come from just a few moments before. He peered around the doorway, only to find the merciless creature from his nightmare on the kitchen island, claws out and covered in blood, while his friends' bodies lay mangled and lifeless on the floor.

I deal with writers block in various ways. Sometimes I will just walk away for a while and do other things. Sometimes I will go back and read sections of the story, or even go back and read everything I have written to that point. A lot of the time I will think about my characters, and ask myself where I want to see them going, and how they would go about getting there. In many ways, for me, the characters write the story.

For me, my greatest loves (outside of my family, of course) are reading and writing. This is why I have an undergrad degree in English and French Language and Literature. I also have a degree in Education, and have been teaching for the past two decades.
So, for me, the best part of being a writer is being able to do what I love. When I am writing, it doesn't feel like work.

If you have an idea, don't wait 20 + years to get it down on paper! As Nike says, "just do it!"
Sometimes the hardest part can just be starting, so just let the thoughts and words flow. The great thing about modern word-processing is that it is easy to go back and change or fix things that you don't like or that aren't working.

I am currently working on a secret project that I will be announcing shortly, and the first book of a second fantasy series that I hope to release in the fall of 2022.

I get inspiration from the things I see and hear around me every day, from conversations I have had that have given me food for thought, from books I have read and movies I have seen. I don't mean I plagiarize or anything...just that sometimes I will read or watch something that will make me think, "that's interesting, but what if..."
I also have favorite authors who have influenced my writing, and from a number of different genres. My love of the fantasy genre began in high school, when I first read J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I also love fantasy/Sci-fi and romance cross-over books, some of my favorite being those by Sherrilyn Kenyon and J.R. Ward, and of course Stephanie Meyer.

I've had the idea for my current book for more than twenty years. The idea was sparked by something I had learned in school. Originally, it was set in the "real world," or a version thereof. However, I have had to change the main premise over the years, as other books and movies came out with similar ideas. That's what you get when you have a great idea but ignore it for two decades, I guess. So now the setting is a fantasy realm. The main character has the same abilities as the main character I envisioned all those years ago, and there is still the good versus evil, but most other elements have changed.
