Naomi Hughes As of now, it's a standalone (mainly because I don't have the stamina to write series, even though I love reading them, alas), but I always stay open to the possibility of an unexpected follow-up if one strikes me.
Naomi Hughes It has WLW rep! Nyx is in a committed relationship with Helenia, who's an important secondary character. And they're pretty adorable together to boot. :)
Naomi Hughes Hi there fellow writer! I actually have a whole post dedicated to writing advice: http://naomiedits.com/most-common-pro.... As for what I do when I can't quite get something I'm trying to write right, that's usually a signal telling me that I may need to re-imagine the scene or plot point I'm stuck on. I make a list of all the things that could be different about the scene ("maybe everyone dies!" is usually at the top of the list, just to free me up to think big) and usually that helps me strike on a fix. Good luck! :)
Naomi Hughes I've definitely heard of these (and several members of my family love the TV show), but I haven't had the chance to read them yet. I'll have to add them to my list!
Naomi Hughes Great question! In list form (because I'm addicted to lists), here are the biggest bits of writing advice that helped me when I was a newer writer:
1. Don't be afraid to write badly. You can edit "bad" writing, but you can't edit a blank page. And often writing badly (or just writing stuff that you know doesn't quite fit the story you're trying to tell) is the way you figure out how to write better.
2. Learn how to take critique. Try to leave ego out of it. This is HARRRD but it's one of the biggest keys to improving. Also, remember that part of learning to take critique means figuring out which critique will help you make the story better and which is irrelevant.
3. Tons of people will give you writing advice. Not all of it will be helpful for you. Different people have different methods; if you try following a piece of advice and it feels wrong or doesn't help, feel free to discard it.
Best of luck with your books! :)
Naomi Hughes Hi there! Great question. I actually can't remember ever wanting to be anything other than an author. I loved reading as a kid (and as an adult now!!) and was constantly devouring every book I could get my hands on, so it felt fantastical to think that I could be one of the people who actually created them. Honestly, I've always felt like a writer is what I was born to be!
Naomi Hughes Right now I'm working on edits for my upcoming book, Refraction. It's a YA sci-fi involving bromance, OCD rep, and creeptastic shadowy murder-monsters that spawn from mirrors. It'll come out Nov 5, 2019, and I can't wait to share it with you!
