The idea for Renegade Heart actually came from a song, the bones of it anyway. This song called Small Town Saturday Night by Hal Ketchum came on and I got to thinking about how life is different in a small town. You feel like you're living your life on a stage. Like you're under a microscope. And then I thought about four friends and how they'd all have a different take on it, because their circumstances aren't identical. And then I turned them into a band called Renegades and it all sort of fell into place.

I take a step back and look at what I've just written. I have a checklist that helps in these situations, to help me find what's missing, because that's usually the issue. If that doesn't help, though, I'll find a random writing prompt to clear out the pipes.
