I'm rushing out the door with my toddler in my arms, late for an appointment. I feel a warm liquid-solid pressing into my abdomen and forearms.

Tolkien's Middle Earth is the best fictional world I know of, but who would want to go there and visit Sauron and some orcs??? I'd have to go with C.S. Lewis's Narnia because you can't beat getting to meet Aslan.

I'm reading a bunch of books about racial justice. Currently reading Caste and White Too Long. Just finished a book group on How to Be an Antiracist and of course Divided by Faith, which I've read countless times and is my must read for white Christians who want to get educated on racial justice and our history.
I'm also on book 3 of Robert Jordan's 14 book Wheel of Time series. I'm thankful to have a fantasy series that reminds me of the Lord of the Rings world. I've learned over the past few years how good it is for my brain to read fiction. It helps me relax and is enjoyable. I also think it's incredible that Jordan wrote 14 books and they are all around 800+ pages!
I'm reading The Great Sex Rescue, which is a very good female perspective on many of the topics I write about in Beyond the Battle.
I listen to a lot of audiobooks as well since I have a long commute. Finishing up Letters from a Skeptic by Greg Boyd, which has been really good. And just started GK Chesterton's A Man Called Thursday. I love Chesterton's clever fiction writing that is filled with philosophy and theology.

Beyond the Battle came from my own testimony of overcoming pornography and also finding contentment in my marriage. I had heard, tried, and preached so many surface solutions that didn't work. Then, through counseling, God showed me the soul-deep, gospel-deep solutions to the WHY behind my struggles, and with that, the answer to that question. Finding that answer transformed me from the inside out! If you want to know more, I have a great book recommendation for you: Beyond the Battle!

It just burns within my soul. I can't help but do it. I love it and it energizes me.

I'm currently working on getting the word out there about Beyond the Battle. Trying to connect with churches and men's ministry about speaking engagements and encouraging them to check out my free small group videos for their men at www.atacrossroads.net/beyondvideos
I'm also going to be starting a new sexual purity podcast soon. My next big writing project will be a research paper needed for PhD applications (in biblical studies) and after that, I'll be writing More Than A Princess, a book for women that is the parallel content to Beyond the Battle.

Do it!
Do it and don't look at your stats. If you are impacting one person, that is enough. Don't get caught up in the lie that you need to be a celebrity or you need to write a best seller in order for what you are saying to be important and relevant. The publishing system is heavily slanted to those who work in big churches and big organizations. Yes they have good things to say, but so do you! Jesus was all about planting seeds, small, seemingly insignificant. You do the planting, let him do the growing! And know that one person's growth is just as important as thousands of people's growth.

I love writing. I love being a pastor too, but being a pastor is like front-lines battle. It's messy and dirty and you get beat up. Writing is another fruitful way of doing ministry, but it's from a distance. It's more restful and peaceful and for me, energizing. I love both and both are needed, but that's what I love about writing. I also like that you can write something and either post it as a blog or publish it as a book and you have no idea how, where, and when God will use it. Someone in Japan might read a 5-year-old blog post that changes their life. That's pretty awesome!

I never have writer's block! Honestly there are so many things I want to write about, my problem isn't writer's block, it's carving out time to write. One thing I like about writing books is I can write and write and write, whereas with blogs you have to keep things short and sweet or you lose your reader's attention.
