Blake Hiatt There was a knock at the door.

A voice said, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help."
Blake Hiatt Whatever catches my fancy. I read for pleasure and to learn. "Planning pleasure" strikes me as an oxymoron.
Blake Hiatt I'm an aspiring writer, so, not sure if I have much advice to offer. I will say, though, for myself, I had a lot of fear when it came to writing. The thing about writing, and creativity in general, at least when it comes to my experience, is that it was very hard for me to overcome the idea of putting a piece of my creativity, a piece of myself, if you will, out for public consumption. I found the prospect to be frightening and that held me back. Eventually, though, I got older, grew a thicker skin and realized I didn't care what anyone thought. If people like what I write, they'll read it, if they don't, they'll move on. Basically, I came to the realization I needed to get over myself.
Blake Hiatt Way back when I took a writing class in which the instructor said that I was going to be a good writer. But, making a living and raising a family put that all on the shelf. Now, a few decades later, it's time to revisit writing and see if I can put words down that people will be interested in reading. And, I've been told by more than a few people, people I have high regard for, that I have a way with words and also have the ability to pull people into the story. No matter what, I'm going to give it a try and see if anything comes of writing.
Blake Hiatt Follow ups to a short story. One short story looks like it has the ability to be the lead-in to a novel and the other looks like it could be a series. Funny thing about writing, sometimes a story just goes the direction it goes and one has to accept wherever the story winds up.
Blake Hiatt I don't. I set the project aside and look for something else to do. I've discovered that if I force something it looks forced. Eventually, I return, try again and see what happens. And, sometimes, after letting whatever I've been working on sit for a bit, I'll read it again, roll my eyes and discard.
