Deb Spera I have always been fascinated by how my grandmother survived abject poverty. I wanted to imagine what that must have been like. I wanted to look at hunger with hard eyes and still explore the strength, love and will to survive.
Deb Spera If I waited for inspiration to get anything done, I wouldn't move off the couch. I'm inspired by language, by the character's voices by the cadence and rhythm, but none of that exists without me getting off my butt and working.

Deb Spera I don't entertain writer's block. I write everyday even if it's just a little and then I walk so whatever I'm circling has a chance to bubble up in the brain. I've just published my first book so I'm just now brewing on the next idea. I'm trying to trust the process and give myself permission to fail.
