Glynis Peters At the moment this decision is out of my hands. I'll just say, if I were to write a sequel, it would be in my style - with a mystery twist.
Glynis Peters My current WIP is inspired by something I wrote in my last novel.
Glynis Peters Well, for example, The Secret Orphan was inspired by a young Canadian dressed in the blue serge uniform of the air force, selling Poppies on the streets of North Vancouver. He smiled, and I was reminded of how many countries supported Britain through the war, and of how devastated his mother would be if she never saw that smile again. Research gave me the city of Coventry, a poem about a Rose and the river Sherbourne, gave me the character of my orphan. Research often inspires a scene or two.
Glynis Peters I am in the middle of working two novels. Both set in WWII. I'm waiting for the strongest story to take hold and will run with that one. If I get stuck, I'll open the file for the other one and move forward that way.
Glynis Peters Never give up. If it is your dream to become a published author, keep trying. Write something every day, even if it is not connected with your novel. Read. Reading can trigger ideas, even if you are not writing in that genre.
Glynis Peters Jotting down my ideas, creating a story to satisfy (or not) my readers. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than reading a pleasant review. Critiques are hard to deal with if they are unkind, but readers strengthen me with their honest opinion. I also love the research side of writing. Finding out little things to enhance a story and it sparks a conversation of when readers recall their past, that's also satisfying.
Glynis Peters I write ideas down for another novel, and start listening out for new characters talking to me. The ongoing characters appear to not like this approach and feed me snippets of ideas for their book! Works every time. I also walk away and potter in the garden or walk the prom to clear the mind.
