Chase Connor Thank you again, John. ATAoN was partly based on personal experience and some of it (the romance aspect) was fictitious. "On the spectrum" is used to categorize quite a few people, so I wanted to be sure to show that, like everyone else, people who fall on the spectrum are varied and have their own individual stories.
Chase Connor Thank you so much, John. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Since I had an idea for two characters from very different backgrounds falling in love swirling around in my head, I wanted a stark contrast in them - sunny with fair features/a bit emo and dark features. One of them the sweet, amiable All-American boy and the other the slightly brooding artistic type. A bit trope-y, but always fun. While they were not based on real people, I did borrow some of my favorite parts of their personalities from people I know, like Ian's patience and placidity and Mike's optimism and curiosity. Additionally, it was important to me to show that what you see on the outside does not always match the inside - Ian's standoffish demeanor belied a delicate soul and Mike's looks and sunny personality contradicted his struggles with confidence. Ultimately, I think the most important thing to me with Ian and Mike was to show their willingness to discover who a person truly is on the inside, regardless of how circumstances try to get in the way.
Chase Connor By writing more. Writer's block is like anything else--it never lasts. You just have to be more stubborn than it. However, don't be an idiot about it. Get up. Take a walk. Watch a movie. Read a book. Spend time with a loved one. Go to a museum. Do something new and exciting and frightening. Inspiration comes from the most unlikely places.
Chase Connor The hours and wearing PJ's to work. HA! I think just creating something from nothing that you're extremely passionate about and then one day having someone say how much it meant to them--it's the best feeling in the world.
Chase Connor Be your biggest cheerleader. There are so many writers out there--you have to advocate for yourself. And don't get tired of doing it, either. It's going to be a lifelong appointment.
Chase Connor A tenth and final entry to "Slave to a Barely Legal Bully"--which will be my last story with any M/M hardcore elements--at least, I'm pretty sure. But I'm also working on a follow up to Just A Dumb Surfer Dude, a book called Aaron's Handbook to the Apocalypse, and a few other goodies...
Chase Connor Sometimes I just have a really solid idea and can charge right out of the gate. Other times, I'll read an inspiring quote or hear an inspiring song, or have a character in my head and just start writing and let the story build. Let the characters speak to me. So, I'm one of those crazy authors who thinks his characters are real. *shrugs*
Chase Connor I'd had this idea for an actor/rock star who was tired of being famous and going back to his hometown to escape it all. The title "Jacob Michaels Is Tired" just kept sticking in my head and as I began writing it, it evolved into this LGBTQ Paranormal Romance series. So, "Jacob Michaels Is Tired", book 1 in the Point Worth LGBTQ Paranormal Romance series comes out 10/2/18 and is available for preorder on Amazon now.
