Summer Rachel Short My favorite part of being a writer is letting my curiosity run wild. It's a joy to discover new things and find a way to spin them into a story. I also love creating characters who begin to feel like old friends to me.
Summer Rachel Short I'd love to travel to Middle Earth. While there I'd stop by the shire and have tea and cakes with the hobbits, take in some elf music in Rivendell, and maybe even set off on a adventure with Gandalf.
Summer Rachel Short I'm finishing up the sequel to The Mutant Mushroom Takeover! Maggie and Nate will solve a brand new mystery--this time in Yellowstone National Park!
Summer Rachel Short Always keep your sense of wonder. Be curious. Read widely. Make time for writing and don't be hard on yourself if it isn't as polished as you'd like at first. Practice and revision help a lot.
Summer Rachel Short One of my inspirations for The Mutant Mushroom Takeover came from my son. He was 10 at the time and had an idea for a pirate named Root Beard whose beard was made of living tree roots. I started imagining what a character who was part human, part something else might be like, which eventually inspired the creation of an important character in the book.
