What inspires you? People ask.
What doesn’t? is my answer,
The world’s replete with beauty,
Ugliness and cancer,
But even if these things were not,
I’d still have much to write
Of all the little demons
Who crowd my head at night.

Bobi Leutschaft Poitras
Currently, I have enough poems to put out a second book but am not sure when I will submit the manuscript. My first book is still so new! I'm also working on illustrating a children's book of ABC poetry that I wrote over the summer. I would like to do a painting for at least 15 of the letters.

Write, write, write. When I was in high school, a teacher told me to write a poem every day. Apart from the years that I spent raising and schooling children, I have tried to stick to that. Now, I'd say I write 99 days out of 100. Of course, only a third, if that, is worth keeping, but it keeps me in the flow. Don't be afraid to write garbage - no one has to see it!

As a poet, the best thing about writing is the challenge of getting what I'm thinking into verse and being satisfied with it. When I finish something I'm happy with, it's the best feeling in the world!

I write nonsense until all the garbage is out of my head and I can get down to some serious writing. If that doesn't work, I focus on something else until the block passes. So far, it always has!

This summer I will concentrate on reading poetry by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, William Wordsworth, and Lord Byron, re-reading Dickens novels, and maybe some Stephen King.
