My idea actually came from my first book. Back when I was revising Maygest's Tale, I came across the section where Maygest is describing his mother's life, and I realized that that would make an excellent short story. So I went out to basically fill in all the gaps as a short story for my fans, but as I kept writing, the book kept getting bigger and bigger until it was the size of a full-length novel. Thus so, I decided to just publish it.

Having lived alone for many years now, Sara went through the well-worn motions of twisting the key and locking the door before leaving for work. As she turned and adjusted her purse on her shoulder, she heard the door slam shut behind her.

I do a combination of things. First, I'll just keep writing, even if it is total nonsense. Then I go take a walk. Once I've had the proper time to mull over the plot, then I'll go back to the computer and delete some of what I wrote. Often times, not all of it is misguided, and I find that I can reform it into something more appropriate for the story. However, there are times where I just have to delete the whole thing.

Normally, it would start with a phrase or an image in my mind. I, then, sit down somewhere quiet, get a cup of tea, and I let my words lead. Other then that not-so-helpful answer, I find music very useful for putting myself basically into a trance so that I can focus. I suppose the thing that inspires me most is nature. I think of the red rocks of Arizona, I think of the quiet Montana shrub-land, and, of course, I think of the towering douglas firs of my home state.
