Liz Johnson Hi Abigail,
Thanks for your question. I'm delighted that you've fallen in love with Prince Edward Island. I did too, and I love sharing this amazing province with readers.

My characters are entirely original. I don't write people I know into my books. I'd hate for someone to recognize herself and be offended. :) But I do use quirks and traits and personal stories to add to my characters. In one of my romantic suspense books I wrote a pregnant character who shook her cup of ice to indicate that she wanted more water, which is something that my sister did with her first pregnancy. When she read that, she called me and laughed about it. It was clear the character wasn't her, but that human interaction made the character more alive, and I loved remembering that summer I spent with my sister.

I will say that of all my characters, Caden is most like me. I see so many of my own insecurities and hangups in her, which made writing her both a wonderful challenge and really rewarding. And I love that my mom and sister both have said how much they love her. It's like hearing that they love me. :)

Thanks for reading!
Liz Johnson Hi Carrie, my favorite spot on PEI is the floating boardwalk at Greenwich Beach. Or maybe the Homestead Trail in Cavendish. Or the boardwalk in North Rustico. Or the boardwalk around the Charlottetown Harbor. Or Green Gables. Or the East Point Lighthouse. Or the rocky beach in the national park. Or... I think maybe I can't pick a favorite. There are too many wonderful places to visit. I like to stay in Charlottetown to have a central hub and then explore the rest of the island from there.

As for customs, I've never had any difficulty getting through. I always allow myself at least 2.5 hours between flights when I'm going through customs (usually in Montreal or Toronto). I did have a wild experience going through customs in Toronto on my return flight to the US last visit--but that was because they require you to wait for your checked bags to be processed before they process the person. I was running late because my flight had been delayed leaving Montreal, and I was literally running through the airport. I finally made it my gate with a minute to spare before the entire airport shut down due to severe weather. :) We didn't take off for another hour and a half. But I've always made it home safe and sound along with all of my souvenirs. I hope you get the chance to visit some day. It's amazing!
