Sean Deffely Kate:

Thanks for your interest in Chief Inspector Thaw. It has been a while since I have been able to finish the next book in the series. However, I actually just uploaded the latest book, called Time to Die, two days ago. It is available as an ebook. I hope not to take so long in between books in the future. I hope you enjoy the book.
Sean Deffely I do one of two things. I either take a rather long walk outside, thinking about what it is I want to write, or I just sit down and start force myself to start typing something, anything that comes to mind.
Sean Deffely I feel the best thing is trying to come up with new and hopefully interesting stories and hoping other people find them enjoyable.
Sean Deffely I think it was Manfred Lee, one half of the writing team behind Ellery Queen, who wrote the following:

“Writers write”

I take that to mean that the first step to writing is just to sit down and write, let the words come out, There is plenty of time to go back over what you have, to edit it. I once even deleted about a day’s work, I just felt it forced and not very good. I think the key is if you want to be a writer, be a writer. I feel that I put it off for too long and once I just started to write it became much less intimidating.
Sean Deffely I am working on two things currently. I am editing a sequel to my first book, one that picks up where Mind Games leaves off. It is an exploration of the further development of Detective Ellery.

I am also writing for a new character I created, this time a British Detective Chief Inspector. He is kind of a know it all type who lacks social skills.
Sean Deffely Mostly by reading other mysteries. I also have also worked as a police officer and I am an attorney who works for a court system. I think my experiences have given me the inspiration to try and come up with some original ideas that hopefully people enjoy.
Sean Deffely I read a lot of detective stories, my two favorite authors are Agatha Christie and Ellery Queen. I also read Colin Dexter, I’m a huge Inspector Morse fan. I also like Laurence Block’s Matt Scudder books, as well as the Spenser and Jesse Stone books by Robert B. Parker. The idea for the book has been kicking around in my head for a while, I’m not sure exactly where it came from. I just finally decided to fore myself to write it.
