The best thing about being a writer is the opportunity for a fireside chat with your reader: to explore the notions, assumptions and theories of the day, through the lens of my own personal experience. Of course, all this must resonate with the reader - he/she is the most important subject!

(view spoiler)[For one, Inspiration. Inspiration is a cheerful spirit that hovers around looking for a host to welcome her. She approached a year ago, knocked softly and waited. She snuggled right in, announced herself with the idea of this book. Like an ember, she invited me to blow into it. I knew she would fly away soon if I did not do something. As I worked on joining the dots, she revealed herself each day, first as a silhouette, and as I joined the dots, gradually revealing herself even more. The book formed itself. To you, creative angel I owe my deepest gratitude. Thank you for staying by my side.

(view spoiler)[This book has been an idea for long. I write about three incidents in my book, and I will share one.
Back in November 2011, at a National HR Conference a global HR Speaker is sharing his perspective on Leadership practice. Someone, in the audience, raises his hand. He remarks about an ancient thought, and urges that we need to develop our own indigenous model basis our Indian-ness. Several delegates chime in at once, agreeing with this. Curious, the speaker invites, if someone would be willing to come up on stage and elaborate on an ‘Indian way’ of management. There was an awkward silence for a while. Someone finally gets up and makes a few points.
I experienced a moment of epiphany. I realised, my own knowledge of Indian leadership practice was unsatisfactory. In discussion with others, I discovered for most of us (the Corporate leaders I spoke to), our foundational knowledge of ‘Indian-ness’ itself is woefully inadequate. Yet, we follow it unconsciously, but beyond surface understanding, and some intuition, there is less attention given to it and its impact and application at the workplace. What kind of training do we provide leaders when they enter, or grow in the workplace? How well do they understand ‘Indian-ness’ and the contextual cultural codes? What no one tells you is Leadership is an Art and a Craft, but between the two lies ‘Business’. I am convinced the ABC of leadership must be learnt.
