Tim Reed Hmm, I quite like Rand al Thor and Min from the Wheel of Time. She has this quiet authority that brings out the best in him.
Tim Reed I try to preempt it by keeping in a writing habit. The longer you leave your work untouched, the harder it is to go back to it and be inspired. Also, wandering through nature or watching an emotive favourite film helps.
Tim Reed Without a doubt, getting lost in the airy fairy land in my head!
Tim Reed Don't sneer at the online market, as it is far larger and more reputable than a few years ago, and also pretty flexible. Perhaps start with some short stuff, if you have the will, and get into the lovely feeling of regularly 'finishing' something and then perhaps seeing it published. It boosts confidence and you gain a continual sense of achievement. Then, when ready, move onto the longer stuff - that is where the bucks are, after all! Also, try to write something every day, even if it's only a few sentences, or a small edit or read - anything to keep you in your literary world.
Tim Reed The idea for my most recent publication, the weird fiction novella 'Spider from the Well', came from one of my favourite all-time stories - The House on the Borderland, by W H Hodgson. I loved the complete strangeness and ominous quality, so I tried to replicate that in a more benign setting (New Forest) and see where it went from there.
Tim Reed A lengthy diet of media over the years - books, tv, video games, etc - has given me plenty of influences to embrace my imagination. The less distractions I have, the more likely I am to be inspired to write for long periods. And, more importantly, likely to write something good!
Tim Reed I am currently working on two books, and am re-editing two more to hopefully publish back-to-back in the next few months. The first book is an adventure game book set in a dream-like mansion, whilst the other is a contemporary YA fantasy, set around a bullied boy and three enchanted trees standing on his land. The two re-edited books are from the same series and are based in a fantasy world, where gods are dribbling back into both the real and dream world...and bringing destructive demons with them.
