The Chronicles of Amber was a definite influence. The core idea has been with me since High School, since I read those books. The Steampunk elements are a more recent addition, and we can probably thank Girl Genius for them.

It was always conceived as a stand-alone. With what I did to the universe with it, a sequel would be difficult and probably be an anti-climax.
