Revenge on the Fly was inspired by an archived Hamilton Spectator article entitled "Kill the Fly, Save the Baby". Those words, so dramatic, made me ask all kinds of questions. I can't believe we've all forgotten that, once upon a time, scientists blamed all diseases on the transporting of germs by fly feet.

Reading puts me in "right brain", that dreamy creative state in which I desperately need to create. Reading the newspaper in print, how retro, keeps me current and inspires me with new plot and character ideas.

Love my new story and I've just finished the first third. A fourteen year old girl and 82 year old woman swap bodies after a car accident in which everyone blames the 82 year old. Together they piece together a case for a recall of the car that really caused the accident. I'm exploring the parallel between age discrimination of teens vs seniors. Lots of laughs.

Enjoy the process rather than get discouraged by the market. Form writing friendships in workshops and classes and they will provide you with extraordinary support and insights.

Always the best thing about being a writer is the writing, and you don't need to be a professional published author to enjoy that. When writing goes well, you disappear into another world and emerge after writing, refreshed almost as if from a deep sleep.

Usually I step away and think about my story while I do something else, walking the dog really helps. Thinking about the project in those moments before I fall asleep often makes me wake up in the morning with a new perspective. When I'm stuck on a plot point, I might do some more research and follow a route that it takes me. If I'm discouraged for some reason, I revisit the original inspiration and get juiced all over again.
