Brian Rathbone Oh, dear. I seem to have missed your email and this note. My apologies. Life has been chaotic. Please email Brian@brianrathbone.com. Thanks!
Brian Rathbone Hi, Heidi. Sorry my notifications have been going to SPAM. I have not read any of Mercedes Lackey's books. I'm not sure how they never entered the circle of fantasy readers I shared books with. I did, however, interview Mercedes a few years back.

I suspect the influences you are picking up on are David Eddings and Melanie Rawn. Have you read any of their work?
Brian Rathbone Sorry for the delayed response. I've always had trouble explaining that. Here's a link to the audio sample where Chris does a great job of pronouncing it!

Brian Rathbone I apologize that I missed this question. I've been tied up but hoping to open back up for interviews in November. My email is brian@brianrathbone.com.
Brian Rathbone My route including making lots and lots of mistakes. For three years, I tried something new every day and eventually narrowed it down to a few things that worked, like podcast novels, free series starter ebooks, and bad dragon jokes. I did write a book about it if you're interested. bit.ly/kickdragon
Brian Rathbone I think my affinity for magic stems from reading fantasy and role playing. Those activities form some of my fondest memories and are things I shared with most of my friends. The bonds formed in our teenage years have continued to this day. In fact, I'm now writing books with some of those friends. It still brings back those same feelings I experienced when first reading Dragonlance for the first time or Shannara.
Brian Rathbone Dragon Airways was largely inspired by my interactions with people on Twitter. Much of the story comes from ideas relating back to previous books, but the humor definitely comes from my tweets.
Brian Rathbone I think about story lines and characters as I go to sleep each night, and then I take handwritten notes the next day while taking a walk. When I have about a full page of notes, the current scene usually plays smoothly in my mind. That's when I sit down to write, and I just let it flow from my brain and out of my fingers.
Brian Rathbone Don't give up and don't let anyone discourage you. It took me years to find success, and many people told me to give up writing along the way--even people who love me. Believe in yourself and your story and just keep at it.
Brian Rathbone Seeing my stories become real is the most rewarding thing for me. My stories are transient and unstable until I commit them to words; only then do they become a part of my reality.
Brian Rathbone I give myself permission to write something terrible. I write without worry or fear and later edit with cold precision. When I tried to get everything perfect the first time was when I had the most trouble with writers' block.
Brian Rathbone I haven't had much experience with bookclubs but would like to become more involved in the future. I will update this answer upon learning more. Thanks for asking, and sorry for the delayed response.
