My family background is definitely a mystery. My paternal grandmother kept mum on our heritage. She used a name she'd liked as a surname, which had no connection to her actual family name, which none of us knew. Even my short, swarthy father used to visit a tall, Scandinavian racecar mechanic he called grandpa, but who was no relation.
