My most recent book, Step by Step (the Crisis Team series) tells the story of a young widowed nurse yearning to put grief behind and move on with her life. It was prompted, most likely, by the fact that I have dear friends who have lost spouses--and how proud I am of their brave, poignant journeys. And, especially, that hope has been their beacon.

Read widely, connect with a writer's group (for Christian fiction authors, that would be ACFW, absolutely), study craft (read, go to workshops, take online classes, learn from writers ahead of you in experience), set daily word goals--and most of all, enjoy the journey. It's the best part.

Fortunately, I haven't had that issue--usually the opposite: floods of ideas and snippets of character dialogue. Like when I'm taking my Fitbit for a walk. Or in the shower--I need shower crayons.
