Andrew Neil Gray It takes time! When I was starting out I wanted everything to happen NOW. But I'm a slow learner (apparently) and I had to make every mistake in the book before finally producing work that magazines and publishers were willing to take a chance on. Looking back, if I was to give myself one piece of advice, I'd say, slow down. Put that new and shiny story in a drawer for a few weeks, then show it to some people before sending it out into the world. Make it the best it can be.

One is set in the same universe as The Ghost Line, but takes place on Ceres and in an asteroid habitat which has been settled by a religious cult. The second is set in the much nearer future: the main character is a former drone pilot turned military contractor who gets caught up in a plot to kill one of the richest people in history.

Rail companies run empty trains on certain lines to keep the right to offer service, and sometimes intrepid travellers get tickets. JS Herbison read it first and we both agreed it would be an interesting subject if instead of trains, it was a spaceship, empty but still running a lonely journey between Earth and Mars.
