A good bit of the one I am working on now came about by just looking at what is going on in America right now and the desire to escape. It very much explores the what if aspects for technology, human origins, and the idea of energy transfer.

This one is more on my characters than myself. They love the autumn season so I know when the seasons start to change and the trees begin to shed their leaves the stirring will begin and they voices will vie for my attention. The loudest will win out and I'll be forced to bow to my character's whims and write the story they recite.

I have a couple of tales I am weaving together. A wraith who is on the outs with her significant other who happens to be Death. And there is the demon fighting to get back into hell and clear her name.

Write the stories you want to read because you will be reading your stories a lot. From the creating process through editing and proofing. Write a story you want to read again and again.

Change of scenery seems to get my characters in line. They like when I mix it up. Being able to watch people coming and going and secretly incorporating them into my stories always gets the juices flowing. Moving medication is also an asset. When the blood gets to pumping and the mind and wonder off, I discover new worlds and tales to tell.
