Having worked as a journalist, I have long since rejected any admission of writer's block. As a reporter, if you told your editor you have writer's block and can't write that day, you get fired! So you just start writing, and maybe it doesn't start flowing for many paragraphs or pages, but you get somewhere useful eventually. I also think writer's block is often based on a need to go back to your outline and tweak it a bit.

I don't need a fictional world. I love the great outdoors, and there is plenty of it where I live in British Columbia. So I imagine wilderness survival stories and outdoor adventures, and that is where my ideas come from!

As I tour schools around the country, I often get asked to feature a sport that I have not yet based a novel around. Lately it was parkour, so that's where The Parkour Club came from!
