I'm an aspiring writer, but I'm dealing with two things: I get discouraged every single day because 96% of manuscripts are rejected, and I haven't had an idea for years, literally. There's too many people wanting to be writers, and knowing there's so much competition just kills me a little every day. When I get motivated, immediatly something appears about the industry that kills it. Any tips on how to deal with this?
Tracey Devlyn The best advice I can offer is to shut out all the publishing news and concentrate on finishing your manuscript and learning everything you can about the craft. When you feel your manuscript is ready for the world, take those first big steps toward publication. Do you want an agent and NY editor? Start sending queries. Do you want to indie publish? Hire a content editor. Shut out all the white noise. BELIEVE you will be published one day. Take the steps. The number of readers far outweigh the number of authors. Your book will find an audience. BELIEVE it.

Tracey Devlyn Right now, I'm dividing my time between a commercial thriller--Black Mist--and Book 2--Night Rain--of my Bones and Gemstones historical mystery series.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Tracey Devlyn If you love writing, even when it's hard, never give up. Stay focused. Block out the white noise. Don't volunteer to the point that you're sacrificing all your writing time. Never give up. Never give up. Never give up. Oh, and write, write, write.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Tracey Devlyn There isn't just one thing! I love creating an entertaining story. Love meeting readers. Love getting paid for making shi--stuff up all day.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Tracey Devlyn I'll step away from my computer for 10-15 minutes. Sometimes I play with my dogs, sometimes I raid the fridge. When I sit down again, the words flow right out of my fingers and onto the screen.
