Have a few friends you trust look at your stuff. Write every day (everyone says that but it's true). Find a door in your life you never went through and send a character through it. Have a personal stake in the outcome. Don't write just to try to "sell."

"Bardo Zsa Zsa" (in progress) I wanted to write something completely outrageous and "just for me" (no holds barred) and this is what came out. Sort of "vonnegutian" noir science fiction (a bit "hitchhiker's guide" but more character driven) with illustrations.
