Sarah Sullivan I'm never sure where the ideas come from. ALL THAT'S MISSING began with an image of a boy arriving at his grandmother's house for the first time. He was about 12 years old and, somehow I knew he had no memory of either his grandmother or the place where she lived. There was some family mystery he needed to solve. And, he was leaving an uncomfortable situation behind. That was all I knew. I had to write the book to answer all the questions this image raised in my imagination.
Sarah Sullivan You can work just about anywhere!
Sarah Sullivan Read a lot. That's easy. The second piece of advice is much harder. Try to let go of fear of failure. That's much harder. I know I'm still working on it!
You have to give yourself permission to fail. Otherwise you'll spend your life striving for unreachable perfection.
Sarah Sullivan I am currently working on the first draft of a Young Adult novel. I'm also revising a middle grade novel aimed at a slightly younger audience than ALL THAT'S MISSING.
