Ken Lang Funny, as I am working on my dissertation I am facing this issue now! In these instances I take a break when needed and think about the impact the piece I am working on will have with my readers. If I am still struggling, I break the writing down into smaller, manageable chunks and focus on those aspects.
Ken Lang Write! Write! Write! and Read! Read! Read!

You really need to set time aside and write on a regular basis to develop and maintain your proficiency. For me, I've found that I'm most creative in the morning (I/m a morning person). So I write in the mornings and early afternoon. Then in the evening I dedicate time to reading, whether its academic or leisure.
Ken Lang I've written three books about murder investigations I handled while working as a homicide detective in Baltimore County, MD. (Walking Among the Dead (1), Standing In Death's Shadow (2), and Death Comes Uninvited (3)). After publishing these books readers indicated they found my career interesting and suggested I write a memoir of my experiences on the police force.
Ken Lang I must confess, sometimes I feel as though I have too many irons in the fire when it comes to my writing. This is especially true as I am working through my dissertation. Nonetheless, I am editing a memoir of my career as a police officer/detective with the Baltimore County Police. I am also writing my rough draft of a true crime book entailing a mother's investigation of her son's death. (The authorities did not give due diligence to this case). I also have a fictional detective series I have dabbled with...perhaps I will delve further into it when I finish my PhD.
Ken Lang While writing is a passion, it is not my sole occupation. I am a retired detective and now a criminal justice professor and consultant. With the busyness of my schedule I find that writing gives me solitude and a way to express myself--letting that creativity flow! (Even when what I am writing is junk!)
Ken Lang Great question! I just press on! Some days I can knock out 10,000 words and others I struggle to generate a cohesive sentence. To get over this barrier, sometimes I will change my writing location or just step away from the computer for a few minutes, take a walk, and think about the topic in which I'm writing.
Ken Lang For the summer of 2017, none! I am a PhD (ABD) candidate at Walden University and am writing my proposal for my dissertation. Though, I do pick up books of interest and read through them in the evenings to relax. I just finished "Filthy Rich" by James Patterson and start "90 Church" by Agent Dean Unkefer. Otherwise, I have nothing officially lined up...
